REPUBLIC ACT No. 3349

An Act Subsidizing the Philippine Federation of Private Medical Practitioners in the Establishment, Operation and Maintenance of a Geriatrics Center and Geriatrics Pilot Projects, and Appropriating Funds Therefor

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippine Congress Assembled:

Section 1. The Secretary of Public Works and Communications shall cause to be constructed in the City of Manila a suitable building for a Geriatrics, Center, in accordance with specifications furnished by the Philippine Federation of Private Medical Practitioners. For this purpose, the sum of two hundred fifty thousand pesos is appropriated out of any funds in the National Treasury not otherwise appropriated.

Section 2. The President of the Philippines is authorized, upon the completion of the building mentioned in Section one hereof, to sell to the Philippine Federation of Private Medical Practitioners, for the nominal price of one peso, the said building and the parcel of land on which the said building is constructed including such adjacent lots thereto for parking and passage and for purposes necessary, incidental or inherent to the objectives of this Act.

The conveyance of said lot and building shall be made for the exclusive purpose of enabling the Philippine Federation of Private Medical Practitioners to establish a Geriatrics Center for the rehabilitation and care of aged: Provided, That the said Federation shall make provisions in said Geriatrics Center for consultation services, including diagnosis, cure and prevention of diseases of the ages; a rehabilitation hall with facilities for physiotherapy and a gymnasium for physical rehabilitation; a library and projection room for psychological and mental rehabilitation; a nutrition clinic; and a research ward on the care and treatment of aged patients.1âшphi1

Section 3. The title to, and use of, the land and building to be conveyed under this Act shall not be transferred nor encumbered by the Philippine Federation of Private Medical Practitioner to another person without previous authority from the Congress of the Philippines.

Section 4. In case the Philippine Federation of Private Medical Practitioners is dissolved or ceases for any reason to undertake the rehabilitation and care of the aged, or violates any provision of this Act, the said land and building, including the improvements thereon, shall ipso facto revert to the National Government without compensation.

Section 5. The National Government shall contribute one-half of the expenses for the operation and maintenance of the Geriatrics Center and such other geriatrics pilot projects as the Philippine Federation of Private Medical Practitioners may establish: Provided, That the total amount of contribution shall not exceed one hundred fifty thousand pesos annually, which sums shall be included in the annual General Appropriation Acts.

Such sums as may be necessary to carry into effect the provisions of this section shall be included in the annual General Appropriation Acts.

Section 6. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
