PRESIDENTIAL DECREE No. 1769

AMENDING PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NUMBERED THREE HUNDRED AND SIXTY DATED DECEMBER 30, 1973 ADJUSTING THE AUTHORIZED GRADES IN THE COMMAND AND STAFF STRUCTURE OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE PHILIPPINES

WHEREAS, Section 2 of PD 360 provides that the positions of Commanders of Task Forces, Major Units and other key positions of the AFP shall be authorized the grade of Brigadier General/Commodore as the President may direct;

WHEREAS, the Commander of the Southern Command occupies a position of major responsibility equivalent to those of the Commanders of Major Services and the Presidential Security Command and exercises operational jurisdiction over the majority of AFP units operating in Southern Philippines;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution as Commander-in-Chief of all the Armed Forces of the Philippines and pursuant to Proclamation No. 1081, dated September 21, 1972, Proclamation No. 1004, dated January 17, 1973 and General Order No. 1 dated September 22, 1972, as amended, do hereby that:

Section 1 of the Presidential Decree Numbered Three Hundred Sixty dated December 30, 1973 is hereby amended to read:

"1. The following positions in the Armed Forces of the Philippines shall be authorized the grades or their equivalent in the Philippine Navy as herein indicated:


Chief of Staff, AFP

General (0-10)
Vice Chief of Staff, AFP Lt. General (0-9)
Commanders of Major Services, AFP Major General (0-8)
Commander of Presidential Security Command, AFP Major General (0-8)
Commander, Southern Command Major General (0-8)
The Deputy Chief of Staff, AFP Major General (0-8)
Deputy Chief of Staff, GHQ J1, J2, J3, J4, J5, J6, J7 and J8 Brigadier General (0-8)
The Inspector General, AFP Brigadier General (0-7)

This decree shall take effect immediately.

Done in the City of Manila, this 12th day of January in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and eighty-one.
