EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 388 April 11, 1972

CREATING A NATIONAL COUNCIL ON PHYSICAL FITNESS

WHEREAS, the capacity of our people to work towards the achievement of national growth and development goals is contingent upon their health and physical fitness;

WHEREAS, an effective national program of physical fitness and athletics promotion is essential to the development of a healthy, strong and sturdy citizenry; and

WHEREAS, such a program can best be developed through a coordinated, integrated approach involving various sectors government offices and entities, private agencies, as well as civic and professional organizations;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby create a National Council on Physical Fitness composed of the following:

The Secretary of Education

Chairman

The Secretary of Health

Vice-Chairman

The Presidential Assistant on Community Development

Member

The Undersecretary of National Defense

Member

A Representative of the Philippine Amateur Athletic Federation

Member

A Representative of the Public School Interscholastic Association

Member

A Representative of the Private School Interscholastic Athletic Association

Member

The Council shall conduct studies and draw up integrated plans and projects on a nation-wide scale for the promotion of athletics and physical fitness and recommend measures for their early implementation.

The Council may organize a Secretariat and call upon any government department, bureau, office or entity for any assistance it may require in the performance of its functions.

Executive Order No. 109 dated December 15, 1967, authorizing the Secretary of Education to supervise and coordinate an integrated physical education program is hereby revoked.
